Describe your business/product or service.

Nurture Mama Doula Care offers professional birth and postnatal doula care, and placenta encapsulation services to families in Kamloops and surrounding areas.

How long have you been in business?

Nurture Mama Doula Care was established in March 2014.

Why did you start the business?

For as long as she can remember, Catherine has been fascinated by the transformation of a woman from pregnancy through to childbirth and motherhood.  Since becoming a mother of two precious boys, her own birth and postnatal experiences have inspired her to channel this interest towards supporting other mothers and their partners on the journey toward parenthood.

Tell us why all parents need to hire your service

As your DONA trained Birth Doula, Nurture Mama Doula Care will be there for you throughout your labour; supporting you in your choices and birthing efforts.  We can offer experienced help and advice on comfort measures such as massage, breathing, relaxation, visualization, movement and positioning. We will be there for you emotionally, as well as for any family members or friends who may be present.  Having a trained and experienced doula by your side can be very reassuring, and can offer a calming presence.  Studies have shown that women who hire doulas have less need for pain medication, shorter labours and lower rates of interventions such as forcep deliveries and caesarean sections.

Partners love doulas too!  Labour is tiring for everyone, including mom’s partner, and a doula can be an extra set of hands that can give them a break or periodically run errands in the hospital.  Some partners instinctively know how to help the labouring mom, while others are grateful for suggestions on how to help.

We will stay with you, offering continuous support until approximately two hours after the birth, regardless of the length of your labour. We can assist you in getting started on breastfeeding right away if desired, and help you settle into life with your new baby.

Nurture Mama Doula Care is not a medical provider and does not perform any clinical tasks.  We cannot suggest or make medical decisions for you, but we can provide you with information, or encourage you to ask questions of your care providers that will help you to make an informed decision.

We offer on-call support throughout your entire prenatal and postpartum experience. Be assured that you can ask us anything, at any time of the day.  This is one of the most wonderful advantages of having a doula!

Why Hire a Postnatal Doula?

Welcoming home a new baby is a time of joy and excitement, but it can also be overwhelming.

Our mission as a DONA trained Postnatal Doula is to help moms and their families transition into their new lives with baby by offering nonjudgmental support, encouragement and evidence-based information so that they can parent confidently and enjoy the early days and months with their new baby.

A new mom deserves time to spend exclusively with her baby, and time to rest and recover without household chores on her mind.  Parents benefit from having an experienced, knowledgeable person to support and guide them, and having a sympathetic ear from a trained professional is also helpful.  Growing families find that balancing their attention between the new baby and older siblings is easier with extra help.  Adoptive families and families welcoming twins or multiples also benefit from postnatal care.  Postnatal care packages are completely customizable to meet your family’s needs and they also make great gifts.
